Privacy Policy

1Overview

AirStatus One is a personal air quality monitoring app that connects to a BLE sensor device to measure and track your environment. This policy explains what data we collect, how it is used, and the choices you have.

We are committed to transparency and to collecting only what is necessary to provide the service.

2Data We Collect

The app collects the following categories of information:

• Authentication data — your email address, used only to create and manage your Firebase account.
• Sensor readings — air quality measurements (temperature, humidity, pressure, VOC, CO₂, IAQ score) from your AirStatus One device.
• Timestamps — the date and time of each reading.
• Approximate location — coarse location (~1 km accuracy) at the time of each reading. Exact GPS coordinates are never stored or transmitted.
• Local device storage — readings are stored on your device using a local database (Hive). Raw readings are kept for up to 7 days before being compressed into daily averages.

3How We Use Your Data

• To show you real-time and historical air quality information in the app.
• To generate personal trends, charts, and summaries visible only to you.
• To contribute anonymized aggregated readings to a shared environmental dataset (see Section 4).
• To maintain your account and sync your personal history across devices.

4Anonymized Environmental Dataset

AirStatus One uploads daily aggregated sensor data to a shared Firestore collection. This dataset is intended to support air quality research and environmental mapping.

Each record uses a randomly generated anonymous document ID with no connection to your account. Location data is coarsened to approximately 1 km grid cells. Because dataset records are fully anonymous, they are not deleted when an account is deleted.

5Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your personal information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

We use the following third-party services, all provided by Google LLC:

• Firebase Authentication — account sign-in and management.
• Cloud Firestore — cloud storage for personal summaries and the anonymous environmental dataset.
• Firebase Hosting — serving this web page.

These services are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

6Data Retention

• Raw sensor readings — stored locally for up to 7 days.
• Daily averages — stored locally for up to 30 days.
• Weekly averages — stored locally for up to 12 months.
• Monthly averages — stored locally indefinitely as your long-term personal record.
• Personal Firestore records — retained until you delete your account.
• Anonymous dataset records — retained indefinitely as part of the shared environmental dataset. These records contain no personal data.

7Your Rights and Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time directly from within the app:

• Open the app and go to Settings.
• Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
• Confirm the deletion in the dialog that appears.

Deleting your account removes your Firebase Auth credentials and your personal Firestore data. Anonymous environmental dataset records are not affected as they contain no personal information.

8Children's Privacy

AirStatus One is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.

9Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
